- Many people can do just fine not learning theory. But it's good to know how everything works and why - It helps you truly understand what you're writing and listening to. I know from expirience that it has taught me so much more then just playing.
Theory Theory may have started when one caveman said to the other If you're already a good Musician you probably know some Theory you just don't know the words to explain it. Remember that Music Theory is meant to enhance your playing. The rules are good to know but we all know the rules are fun to break!! Let's Get Started!! First off let's take a look at the Notes of the Guitar.

Now, that won't work for everyone and it take a while but it will pay off in the end. Or you can try this Exercise: Keep in mind you can use a combo of both of these ways just remember to take it slow and take it day by day and one Note at a time.
